America's Gaylord Entertainment file lawsuit against Thomas Nelson Inc
IN AMERICA Gaylord Entertainment have filed a lawsuit alleging that Thomas Nelson Inc engaged in false advertising, unfair competition and breach of contract. The suit refers to a recent advertising campaign where Thomas Nelson announced the change of Word Publishing's name to W Publishing Group. Ads featured well known Christian authors making statements about the new name including Max Lucado saying "Word no longer inspires me" and Tim Lattaye saying "I left Word so I wouldn't get left behind." In 1996 Gaylord brought the Word music assets of Thomas Nelson. Gaylord licensed Thomas Nelson to use the Word trademark in book publishing and that licence expires in January 2002.
