DMI Awards set to take place in London in May.
IN ITS sixth year, Europe's most prestigious gospel awards celebration, the DMl Awards, takes place on 28th May at the Cafe Royale, London. Categories at this year's Awards have been expanded and now include white CCM as well as its historic black gospel base. Categories include 'Best Rock Contemporary Gospel Album', 'Best British Rock Gospel Singer' and 'Special Contribution To The Gospel Industry', which are to be decided by a planning committee, whilst three categories of 'Best Gospel Radio Personality', 'Gospel Event Of The Year' and 'Gospel Choir Of The Year' are to be decided by a nationwide poll. Nominees for the latter include LCGC and The Manchester Cultural Choir.
Executive Secretary Ms A Tamakloe sees the aim of DMl Awards as focusing interest on Christian music ministry. She told Cross Rhythms, "By rewarding artists for excellence in music we are encouraging them to work harder throughout the year." Interest surrounding the Awards grows yearly. Ms Tamakloe suggests "People are more aware of us because of our commitment to propagating the Gospel Awards as a charity event." This year all profits will go to 'Save The Orphans Of Uganda'."
