Singer/songwriter Garth Hewitt visits Croatia.
BRITISH CCM's ambassador to the world's voiceless, Garth Hewitt, has recently returned from a fact-finding visit to see the work of relief organisation Samaritan International in Croatia. He was invited to Croatia by Samaritan International founder the late George Hoffman OBE, who also helped launch Tear Fund.
While in Croatia Garth visited the war zone and saw the appalling savagery of the attack of the Yugoslav army and Serbian fighters. In Danivar, Pakrac and Lipik they had graphic illustration of how the Serbian army had been target-ting hospitals, schools, old people's homes, churches and civilians.
"It was profoundly shocking to see the way that every house in the village had been deliberately destroyed", Garth said, "and to see the almost gleeful destruction of a large modern hospital, and likewise the deliberate destruction and mining of a school. The specific targeting of civilians and the racial nature of these attacks makes this war a holocaust."
Garth also said that the crisis for the Bosnian refugees would become greater particularly into the New Year as the winter got worse.
