25 song compilation features Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman and many more.
IN MARCH Authentic Music will be releasing the first of four volumes 'CCM Top Hundred Vol 1'. The album offers 25 tracks from such artists as Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W Smith, Dallas Holm, Point Of Grace, Crystal Lewis and Avalon. It was compiled from a list drawn up and originally published in Nashville's CCM magazine. It has already received some stinging criticism. Said Cross Rhythms editor Tony Cummings, "The tracks presented are good as far as they go, offering a reasonable representation of the biggest songs on American CCM radio. But the subhead of the album, 'Greatest Songs In Christian Music', is glaringly inaccurate. For a start, the albums fail to represent the huge contribution that African American gospel has made to 20th century Christian music. They also completely fail to take account of the international dimension - where is the UK's Parchment or After The Fire, or Australia's Sister Janet Mead or African gospel, etc, etc? Sadly, these albums tell you as much about the cultural ignorance of Nashville media as they do about the rich heritage of 20th century Christian music."
The opinions expressed in this article are not necessarily those held by Cross Rhythms. Any expressed views were accurate at the time of publishing but may or may not reflect the views of the individuals concerned at a later date.
Notice that CCM stands for Contemporary Christian Music. Gospel is a totalyl different genre.
