Taking and easy lead, Black Gospel takes the number one spot
BLACK Gospel is the number one selling type of Christian music in America, according to a recent poll. The poll also revealed that in America two thirds of all black gospel music is purchased by whites; almost one third of all American black people who bought an album in 1989 bought a black gospel album; and that black people buy three times as much black gospel as whites buy contemporary Christian music.
These statistics have been used by Sparrow Records to support their drive to encourage Christian bookstores throughout the States to include black gospel sections in their record racks. They have mailed 1500 stores with information packs, including marketing tips sheets, promotional material for gospel sections and black gospel calendar posters. Due to their efforts 120 new black gospel sections have been opened since August 1 this year.
