Tony Cummings met up with the Florida-based acoustic duo TEMPLE VEIL
Continued from page 1
Tony: Was that a struggle for you?
Brysson: It was, yes.
DeRock: It was a struggle for the both of
us: Brysson wasn't originally an acoustic guitar-player, and I was
not a lead type of a singer guy. I can back up any day and night,
being in a supporting role, but you start to talk about putting me out
in a front-runner or lead person, that wasn't my expertise. It was
very uncomfortable for the both of us.
Tony: It's brave of you to say how to you were led into worship, because, in a sense, it was almost like expediency. When did it really begin to stir in your heart that this was something God wanted you to do?
Brysson: We went on tour, and we thought this would be a temporary thing: 'After this tour, we'll get back to doing the regular thing.' On that tour we started seeing the response of people, saw lives changed and people coming to the Lord. That's when we realised we just needed to be obedient with the direction: that's where the Lord was telling us to go. Being obedient to the calling, that's all he wanted from us. We realised we need to walk in that, and since then we've been going full-steam ahead with Temple Veil.
Tony: I understand that you are in the process of making a new record.
Brysson: We have an EP that will be coming out soon. We've been
working on it too long. We went to Nashville with this EP, which
wasn't a cheap way to go. We've made a lot of investment into this EP.
We don't have an exact release date yet, but the only thing that's
left is mastering and manufacturing, so it's going to be soon. It's
going to be called 'Give His Love Away'.
DeRock: Is that what
we're going with?
Brysson: I think that's what we decided.
Tony: Tell me about some of the songs on the new EP.
DeRock: "Give His Love Away" is a pretty cool track; it's really
about just looking out and giving Jesus' love away. Many times we see
people out on the street and think, 'Gosh, man, I wish I had a pound
to give that guy,' or we're thinking the other thing like, 'Man, they
could really go get a job'. As Christians our job is to love one
another, and that's what that whole song is about - loving each other
regardless of where we came from or what we are.
Brysson: We
have to be willing to get out hands dirty to do that: sometimes we
have to go out there and labour in places that aren't necessarily
comfortable.
Tony: Tell me about another song.
Brysson: There's a track on there that's called "Radiate". That's
going to be a little bit of a different direction for Temple Veil.
DeRock: It's more of a poppish rock.
Brysson: More electronic
- a little electric guitar in there. It's definitely pushing the
envelope of what we've done before.
DeRock: There's a slight
hint of EDM going on there.
