Tom Lennie asked Irish-born singer NIKKI GARDINER some questions.
Tom: How did you start in Christian music?
Nikki: I have been involved in Christian music for about 14 years
now. My parents have been involved in the Christian music industry for
a long time and I grew up with it. When I was three years old, I sang
along side them for the first time in my home church. I loved singing,
especially about my Saviour, and that's what I have been doing ever
since.
Tom: How did you come to record
'Here'?
Nikki: I first met Ian White two years ago when I lived in Fraserburgh, Scotland. Ian was doing a concert in my church and I sang one song at it. When talking with Ian, I told him that I loved singing and it would be my dream to make a career out of it. Months after meeting Ian and after a lot of prayer and thought, I accepted the offer of a singing contract from Little Misty Music. It wasn't, however, until after my Higher exams in summer 2003 that I began recording the first album.
Tom: What's it like working with Ian White?
Nikki: Great. Because of his own experience in Christian music, I
have learnt a lot already. I have a great admiration for Ian as a
talented musician, songwriter and producer.
Tom:
You're already playing quite a number of concerts - do you enjoy
playing 'live'?
Nikki: Each concert is a fast-moving set of live singing and dancing to backing track music. Singing and dancing live is one of the most exciting and enjoyable parts of music. I love
