The financial stories of CHRIS COLE and artists After The Fall, Pray Naked and Rachel Friend
Continued from page 6
6. What is the lowest amount you've received?
"Nothing. Sometimes I get travel expenses, petrol money, but often I
don't even get that."
7. Do you have your own PA?
"Yes I do but I
don't get to use it very often. Many of the engagements I play I use
the churches or the event's PA."
8. What recordings have you made?
"The one
private recording After The Dream'."
9. What did it cost you to make?
"It was
recorded very, very quickly. Recorded and mixed in three days! I paid
for the studio, but the musicians on it played for free and I knew
someone who did the artwork for nothing. I had 500 CDs and 500
cassettes made and the total cost, studio, manufacturing, printing,
came to £2.600!"
10. How did you finance it?
"I did a lot of
saving! Also I took a loan from my Dad which I've since repaid."
11. Have you recouped your money yet?
"Not yet,
so far I've made £2,000. The thing is many of the events I play it
wouldn't be appropriate to sell products at. I've played relatively
few concerts as opposed to worship events."
12. Final comments:
"I was very discouraged when
I sent my album to four Christian record companies asking if they
would distribute it and got turned down by them all. But recently God
has brought me encouragements. I've had a song 'He Will Go" on the YFC
'Jubilee' album and Soul Survivor have just done an album called
'Peoples' with people like Martin Smith and Jeff and my song 'After
The Dream" is on there. But most of all I've received encouragement
from people who've been ministered to through my music. Like this chap
who was at a detox unit and he had my tape. He was in a ward where
there was a girl who kept cutting herself. He noticed that every time
he was playing the tape she would stop cutting herself. It calmed her.
So when he left he gave her the tape."
