A dig through the Cross Rhythms archives will reveal a couple of '90s rap releases from Freedom Of Soul, and some projects from LPG and Tunnel Rats. Now two of the guys are back: namely Peace 586 and Jurny Big. Once again, they shun the slick golden sparkles of the likes of Snoop Dog, Drake and Tinie Tempah, and instead provide a more down-to-earth, gritty vibe. Taking rap back to the streets where it started! The collection starts with a slow moving, broody soundscape of samples and vinyl scratches, but soon erupts into a virtually non-stop rhyme-athon. The lyrics are delivered faster than your ears can receive them, their meaning often hidden as a result, but fans willing to hit the repeat button will find some surreal poetry ("Pavlov's Dog") and possibly biographical story telling ("Vincent Reynosa"). On the surface, this is not easy music to instantly enjoy, but these guys hold a deeper treasure, skill and maturity to be appreciated by connoisseurs and students of the genre.
