This is Joni's contribution to Word's Timeless Classics, a series which also boasts three Pat Boone albums, three from George Beverly Shea and others from the likes of Burl Ives and Glen Campbell. Yes folks, we've ventured into the sort of easy listening territory where even great aunt Agnes would feel at home. I had always thought of Joni Eareckson-Tada as a painter and writer rather than a singer worthy of "classic" status. However, on playing the CD I discovered that she is an engaging and versatile singer and although the credits indicate that she does not write any of her own material the lyrics suggest close collaboration with the lyricists, with many of these songs seemingly very personal testimonies to Joni's overcoming faith in the face of her disability. As such the songs are upbeat and uplifting although a little contrived at times, rather too many songs about wings and flying for my liking (and yes, a sickly sweet kiddies choir does make the occasional appearance too!). But nice to find a cover of Larry Norman's "I Am A Servant" included.

Joni's song I Can.. touched my my heart when i was a teenager, listening to the song after 25 years brought tears to my eyes n memories reminding me of God's mercies. I am rejuvenated to move with His strength all over again. Thank You Joni You are a Blessing to me.
