Psalm 61:2
Two years ago we found out that our 11-year-old daughter Sarah had cancer. The heavy dark rain clouds of trouble had come across our lives.
One of my favourite verses in the Bible is 'When my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I' Psalm 61: 2.
Jesus urges us to prepare our hearts for times of trouble, and to build our lives on the solid rock of faith in Him. A shallow, superficial relationship with Him will not sustain us through times of trouble.
One of the saddest things I have seen in my life is watching people push God away, or close down on Him when trouble comes into their lives.
Times of trouble can be times of opportunity to prove, test, and go deeper into the tender heart of our loving God. He desires to walk closely with us through trials and suffering. Our experience can prove to our souls that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
If our lives are built upon the rock of knowing that God is beautiful and perfect in goodness, we will hold His hand tighter, walk with Him closer, and let Him prove His care through the storm.

I remember the talk you did years ago at the Cross Rhythms festival - you sat with your daughter and shared about the dark clouds. I think your daughter had a picture/dream from God...
Anyway, it made a lasting impression.
Back then you said you had recently started home educating your daughter and it is great to read that you must have stayed with it for years. Now I am at the brink of thinking about this too.
Thanks - I really loved your talk all those years ago
