Psalm 69:1-4

Life is great.

Honestly, I don't think that I have ever felt so alive. I'm kinda PSYCHED every moment of the day. It's amazing what God is doing & I know that I am SO privileged to be a part of this absolutely awesome adventure.

That said, it hasn't been easy. There is always a cost & that cost demands for someone to pay it.

Psalm 69:1-4 (NLT) says:

'Save me O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.
Deeper & deeper I sink into the mire; I can't find a foothold.
I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.
I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched.
My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.
Those who hate me without cause out number the hairs on my head.
Many enemies try to destroy me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn't steal.'

The reality of what some might see as an overnight success is that there has, and will continue to be, a great cost. Every leader of significance has a story of cost. Here are some lessons that I have learnt in overcoming disappointment.

  • Your eyes must never be drawn away from that which Jesus has revealed to you. Much of the 'stuff' that is thrown at you is simply trying to get your attention. Keep fixed in your focus!!
  • People who don't get their own way say nasty stuff. People who are jealous say nasty stuff. People who are ignorant say nasty stuff. Get used to it. Control freaks freak out when they are not in control. Listen, they are saying vile stuff at your position, not you. If you weren't in the position you have, they wouldn't be saying vile stuff!! Don't let it stick!!
  • People make mistakes. This is the greatest disappointment. When genuine people trip up. You're dependent on HIM not them!! Your faith is in HIM not them. Love people!! Simple!!
  • You will get stuff wrong!! Don't beat yourself up. Be humble enough to remain a learner. It is often quoted, 'When you stop learning, you stop living'.
  • Learn to laugh!! Seriously, there are disappointments on every level, every day. Laughter is great medicine.
  • Keep your relationship with Jesus real, innocent & genuine. The longer you are in a relationship the easier it is to get familiar. DON'T!! Love Him with a zeal that is unquenchable.
  • Choose your attitude. I have chosen to live an adventure. That means it is full of fun, excitement, scary, adrenaline fuelled & Jesus centred. What is your attitude? Attitude is your angle of approach to life.
  • Learn to party. Celebrate the highs!! Seriously, celebrate the great things!! Winners celebrate!!

These are a few tips to overcoming disappointment. CR
