With an album title as wonderfully eccentric as this, those searching for the Christian equivalent of Ned's Atomic Dustbin might momentarily stop at this review. But there's no thrash-pop wall of sound on this offering. In fact, there's very little instrumentation of any description, beyond Pete's neatly played acoustic and some occasional nicely authentic fiddle from Kevin Doonan. Pete's voice is pretty limited but folkies like Pete can get away with it particularly when they turn in lyrics of such consistently high calibre. Standouts were "Do Gerbils Have Souls?" (now there's a theological point to ponder), "Usury" ( a copy should be sent to every building society) and Christmas opus "A Long Way From Bethlehem Tonight". Occasionally, his humour falters (two songs about gerbils is one too many) while better production would have helped. But Pete is a roots communicator well worth hearing. If your town has a folk club ask them to look up Pete, but buy this tape first.
