If you've heard of George Beverly Shea it might well be that you remember him coming over to Britain with the Billy Graham crusades. In fact, he has a 50 year association with Billy Graham, singing to the audience before the spoken message. This latest release finds him returning to some of the "classic" hymns and songs of that period. The songs and the settings are simple but the delivery is warm and sincere, reflecting years of experience. From the overtly nostalgic "Church In The Wildwood" to the simple prayer of "How Great Thou Art", the songs are undemanding but effective. You wouldn't choose this album for the voice alone, although the creamy bottom register is a delight. "America's beloved gospel singer", they call him and he hasn't lost his touch.
