Listening to this album made me feel very old! Particularly when I looked at the sleevenotes and found that none of these songs date from later than 1975 and in fact a goodly few are by the prolific "Author Unknown". Adding to the time warp feel were the performances of these 19 pieces, over 63 minutes of music: acoustic guitars, the occasional tambourine and unison voices. In fact, exactly how we used to do them in our church youth club, way back when. I'd like to say that this album brought back happy memories - but I can't. The only thing it achieved was to make me grateful that praise and worship music, courtesy of Messrs Redman, Richards, Prosch and Kendrick, is now light years away from this sort of stuff. Perhaps I'm being a tad unfair, after all, the Fisherfolk were very popular and the music could be said to hark back to a time when life was a lot simpler. Nevertheless they were never at the cutting edge even then. Why Kingsway have released this puzzles me - I'm sorry to say that it's utterly irrelevant: these hoary old chestnuts belong in the museum.

Wow! The Fisherfolk! Such happy memories I have of these songs from my childhood! I am 42 years of age now & still a song of their's will joyfully pop into my head from time to time which I sing. For example; I'm sitting up in my bed writing this comment this morning on my ph because I've just been singing "I rejoiced when I heard them say, let us go to God's house today!" and wanted to google the rest of the lyrics. Where can I buy a CD of this album? Bless you! Robyne

As someone who lived in the C of Celeb I have found it inspiring to listen to the heart felt comments of people who appreciated the Fisherfolk Yes I agree and still love their music and was list to some today I am teaching some of the children's songs in my church and people say how much they like them you can indeed get their music through their website However it won't necessarily be compatible with your CD player

The Fisherfolk for me didn't draw people to themselves, they drew people to the Lord, which is what true worship is all about. Please Break this bread Lord and Candy Coated Gospel are still very relevant today... Can anyone post these to me please I still believe there is an anointing on these songs...maybe the production sounds a bit old but so do other songs from that time..

Hi!
My mother passed away before I could get her The Fisherfolk music.
How can C.D's not be available in South Africa if the tapes were popular here in the 1970's?
Thank you

Oh Trevor, You really missed the mark. The big thing was making that JOYFUL NOISE to the Lord with the few instruments available & the Best Way was using His Word to Praise & Worship Him.
If there was one thing the Fisherfolk taught me it was how to memorize scripture & 40 yrs on I can still remember so many scriptures because of the songs & not because the Sunday School teachers drilled it into you.
Worship leaders & Gospel Writers out there - your best songs are still to be revealed - they are waiting for you to put music to the Biblical words written many years ago.
Have any of you heard of APOLOGETIX from the USA. They are a parody band, who I heard of in New Zealand, who take Rock music from 60's onwards & puts Biblical words & lyrics to them. WOW! And we thought that's why the Beatles & Elvis and others had such good music. The Lord had an ulterior motive- Get the music known & the New(?) songs will really take off with Gospel Words.
God Bless the Fisherfolk for the foundations they laid. God Bless Apologetix for carrying the tradition on into the 21st Century. Keep Praising Him from His word!!!

Whenever I want to find music that reflects the essential outworking of my faith, I've yet to find songs which so consistently hit the nail on the head as do those of the Fisherfolk. Community is at the heart of Christian living - in as much as Jesus said that it is by our love for each other that all people will know we are his disiples. Singing about the reality of relationships within the body of Christ was their hallmark, and it came out of authentic experience.
Of course some of it is horribly dated ('Pullin' the weeds, Lord'...) but that doesn't undermine their output overall. 'Praise God for the body' is a song I come back to again and again.
