The quaint photos might have fooled you that this was a reissue of ancient analogue renditions while the presence of producer Andy Harsant and session singer extraordinaire Simon Goodall might have suggested something contemporary. In fact, this is a tribute to 1950's hymnals like Golden Bells and Redemption Hymnal sung in the old style, largely in unison, by a bunch of sessioners. If you’re a historian or a religious nostalgist longing for recordings of “He Lives He Lives”, “In My Heart There Rings A Melody”, “Heaven Came Down And Glory Filled My Soul” and 12 other turn of the (20th) century items you might want this. If truth be told though, some of these songs now sound exceedingly dated.
