With this their second full length album Nevertheless have produced material that should raise their profile in what is currently a large and fashionable genre. Nevertheless, hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee, are a pop rock band whose sound is heavily led by melodic piano reminiscent of The Fray and Mae. Some more guitar-orientated influences can also be heard as they intersperse quieter moments with catchy guitar riffs. By far, the strength of this album lies in the powerful ballads that Nevertheless deliver with passion and honesty. "Rest" is one such track with its call to let go of our hurts as we respond to God. "Augustine" is another which conveys emotion without too much heavy instrumentation. For those familiar with the material on their earlier album, this more reflective offering is less immediate but more mature. And radio stations should plump for "Longshot" with its catchy lyric and strong hook. For fans of rock who like a good melody to sing along to, Nevertheless have tunes to deliver and throw in lyrics that at times are both personal and mature. This is an album well worth a listen.
