The prolific Mr Birtill has come up with an unexpected winner on this album. The concept, 12 brand new songs and 18 tried and tested Birtill favourites recorded live at Betel of Britain (the Christian centre committed to restoring the broken lives of those with alcohol and drug addictions) is a strong one and the band Godfrey an excellent one with Raul D'Olivera's piercing trumpet conjuring up some nice jazz licks while the socking drums keep the whole thing percussively punchy. But it's one song which dominates this 2CD set, a song which has already proven to be a runaway hit at the recent Grapevine Bible week. If you were there you will know exactly what I am talking about. "R U Ready?" is a bit of a first for praise music - a rollicking, retro number with a sound and style like something that could have been recorded by Bill Haley And The Comets in 1956 (if they'd been Christians that is). The lyrics, about God's glory being with us in any and every situation (shop, office, bedroom. . . even pub), are fun (and thought provoking) though it has to be said that this is a Marmite kind of song - you will either love it or hate it! Elsewhere on the album Godfrey offers uplifting and sometimes challenging music with his usual rough and ready passion.

This CD is BRILLIANT! it's anointed and when we put it on it draws us into prophetic worship and intercession...TOPS!
People who are into mickey mouse worship will not get it...

If you've ever been at worship led by Godfrey then you might be expecting a momentous CD, possibly slightly quirky, but probably very powerful. This CD doesn't really show Godfrey in the flesh.

If you are looking for your favourite G.B. songs then this might satisfy you. If, on the other hand, you're after something to listen to from start to end, disk 1 to disk 2, then, like me, you might end up a little fatigued.

The music is not really intense (unlike the man or the events I've seen him at), and it's all so _samey_ - there's little to distinguish each song. This is good for corporate worship - I mean, I'm sure there are few churches where they regularly have Delirious-style music - the music is neccesarily middle-of-the-road so that the congregation can get in touch with God. However, one or two songs are tolerable, but once I pass a dozen, I'm sick of the sound of it. The same guitar sound, the same mix of other instruments, the songs do change, but after a point I stopped conciously listening.

Don't let me put off those of you who are looking for your favourite GB songs, but this is a CD I only encounter when on shuffle.
