Pennsylvania-based singer/songwriter Mary Brewer( (aka Frogs In The Reeds) released this set way back in 2013 but it's taken a long while for Cross Rhythms to get their hands on a copy. According to her label website, Mary grew up to a soundtrack of frog calls, thunder and lowing cows. This may go a little way of explaining the album title. This debut album contains intriguing images such as in "Fish Tank Dream", as they "keep the cat alive" followed by "open your mouth wide, and the Lord will fill it!" This is mixed with more than a little '70s/'80s musical influence in tracks like "Refuge". Old Testament references permeate the lyrics ("Driving And Smiling") alongside the confusing images of "Five Days Old", the latter which, despite several listens, still confuses! Overall the album is a challenging listen though if you have a taste for quirkily eccentric songsmiths, you may find it worth investigating.
