This compilation is a result of The Tablet, the weekly Catholic newspaper, inviting it's readers to name their favourite hymn. The top 20 are featured on this album including classics such as "Be Thou My Vision" and "My Song Is Love Unknown" and the more recent "Christ Be Our Light" and "Be Still For The Presence Of The Lord". There is excellent direction from conductor James Jarvis, particularly in "Dear Lord And Father Of Mankind" where the use of dynamics is especially effective. As a bonus Included on the CD of traditional English hymns, recorded at St Alban The Martyr, Holborn are two Polish hymns sung by mezzo-soprano, Renata Jonscher. An attractive selection of hymns both ancient and modern, giving you that sitting-in-a-Cathedral feel.
