Love the quote from Cheltenham youth worker Ewan on the sleeve: "If it sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom with dodgy equipment, that's because it was..." Full marks for honesty then from a veritable one-man-band and production company, here following up this year's 'Songs About Pharisees EP'. So what sounds emerge from the Jones bedroom then? In a word, strange. This certainly isn't your average bedroom recording, although it's no Daniel Bedingfield either. It does have an authentic low-fi sound and would fall neatly into the category marked "moody" - for you can't exactly imagine Ewan's youth group disco-ing down to this of a Friday night. There are some really nice moments, although the "low-fi-ness" can get a bit annoying in places and the lyrics flirt dangerously with cliche more than once; "You are like a train and I am the track" (from "Why I'm A Hypocrite") and can also sound a tad pretentious, "...all your memories are sepia..." (from "Wrapped"). In general though, this is quite original.

I bought this CD off Ewan himself last summer, and I'm
overjoyed to see it on here! To be honest, probably one of
the best demos I've ever heard. Design v1.4 has become one
of my favourite songs, and the catchiness and tempo of the
whole album is outstanding. Reminded me of no one in
particular with the exception of a very Metallicaish moment
in the middle of Chloroform. Overall, a good CD with well
written riffs and a low, mournful singer.
Nice one Ewan, looking forward to whatevers coming next!
