The pastor of the multi-ethnic Emmanuel Christian Centre, Walthamstow is a certain Mr Doug Williams, who was a member of the fondly remembered London-based gospel funk band of the '80s, Paradise. Now Paradise laid down some real grooves in their brief career, but sadly there's nothing remotely like that on this rather bitty CD EP. The six tracks plus one backing track on offer are a mix of straightforward praise and worship, poetry and meditation, and it's all pretty average. The songs are uniformly repetitive and suffer from rather ragged vocal performances, and whilst the meditations are certainly different, the piece "Through The Psalms" being readings of verses from the Psalms in Tamil, Spanish and what is confusingly described as 'African' (there must be hundreds of languages in that continent!), the whole thing singularly failed to keep my attention. A definite miss.
