I must start off by saying that this is right up my street. By that I mean intelligent, tuneful pop rock music with appropriate use of guitars and prominent bass (John’s bias comes in here). It is produced by Kev Jamieson who looked after Paul Oakley’s first two albums which might account for the slightly retro rock feel which surfaces at times. The especially pleasing thing is that things are not left in that rocky place, good though it is, but move on encompassing reflective moments of thoughtful ballads and dare I say it jazz or even dance influences. The vital underpinning is the combination of David’s controlled voice and his songs of living out real, mature faith, not just name-checking Jesus. This is the sound of one different drum that I am happy to move to. So all in all I have to give it a 10.
