From the outset let me state unequivocally that this is an incredible debut album. If you're tired of the pseudo-passionate breathless singing that likes to be described as today's R&B, then check out the gravely voice of Charity Von. Taking her musical inspiration in equal measure from Janis Joplin and Lauryn Hill, and her discipleship training from the ministry of the late great Keith Green, Charity Von has made a superb start to her recording career with this self-titled offering. Listening to her confidently belting out a range of such great songs it's hard to believe that she is still a teenager! Her opening rock anthem "Weight Of The World" sets the meaty standard that Von maintains right through to the grand finale of "The Message". The more restrained tracks like the neo-soul infused "I Believe In Miracles" and soft rock praise of "I'll Be" simply underline the fact that Von is a great songwriter. Make no mistake, Charity Von is a name that we are going to hear a lot more about in the coming years.
