Recording for the same small label that releases Sufjan Stevens' music and featuring Stevens somewhere on this collection of esoteric tunes, this is similarly beguiling to his solo music and the stuff he's done with his family. The similarities don't just end at the label home, Castanets also have a delight in creating long winded song titles so you get "The Waves Are Rolling Beneath Your Feet" and "Evidence (A Mask Of Horizon, Distortion Of Form)" which both weigh in below 60 seconds. But if you enjoy your music a little leftfield, there's much here to delight the heart including the superb, haunting "No Voice Was Raised" and the mix of Americana and electronica that brings us the amazing "A Song Is Not The Song Of The World". Raymond Raposa, he who is Castanets, just seems to enjoy the experimentation and free form songwriting demonstrated across his second album. Avante-folk anybody?
