This Nigerian singer's new album would have been brilliant were it not for certain things that bring it down; things such as the cheesy reggae sound of some tracks (made even more so by guest toaster Prince Paul), the clichéd "what will be will be" sentiment of some of the lyrics, and our lead guy's tendency to sing off key occasionally. A little more genuine originality would have helped too; the track "Come To Jesus" is a bare faced rip-off of Aswad's '80s hit "Bubbling". On the plus side, there's "Abiama", a beautiful hi-life tune on which Bobike sings with majesty and authority. It's brilliant - that is, until Bobike ruins it by reeling off a list of names of business people (his supporters who bankrolled the album, perhaps?) towards the end. On the whole, 'Never Let Go' isn't a bad album, but it could have been a whole lot better.
