Blujam hides the identity of dance producer Tim Sherlock-Brown, a Birmingham-based talent who first came to attention with vinyl releases on the acid house scene before the tragic death of a close friend sent him in a new direction. 'We Children' is the debut album, set to be released in August of this year, and integrates a number of ancient gospel recordings with the pumping sounds of today's club music. Tim isn't, of course, the first producer to sample the glories of old school gospel (Moby has made millions doing so) but this is still an intriguing effort. Pride of place on the album is the song "Dragnet For Jesus" recorded in 1954 by Sister Wynona Carr and hereby given an electronic accompaniment which keeps the song and Wynona's rolling piano riffs intact. There's another Wynona Carr sample on "I'm A Pilgrim Traveller". If updating gospel classics doesn't appeal there are also some excellent raps here provided by The Custodian and Barrowclough from Birmingham's famed artist collective Zang productions. Never less than interesting, 'We Children' is an album electronica and dance music buffs will want to search out.
