On the "You're The One" opener the retro groove of '70s R&B with its chattering wah wah guitars, trundling bass line and weaving Hammond line was infectious enough even if the vocal hook "you're the one" doesn't quite reach the heights. But if you can ignore the occasional lapses ("Gonna Follow You" and "Sunrise" have weak melodies) and when the group drop the retro-funk influences and use a more standard rock approach the effect is less riveting. But there's some fine playing throughout and if a tad too many solos all are well executed. I suspect that live this band are sensational and if they can hang together to sort out their ideas, gain more creative focus and bring in a record producer they could make a storming album. In the meantime, if you are truly prepared to take the rough with the smooth this 12-song work-in-progress recording shows much promise.
