IN THE MAINSTREAM Big Dismal are another of those rock bands that seem to be launched simultaneously into the mainstream and Christian market like labelmates 12 Stones. The release of this album last year saw the band breaking out even though their singer Eric Durrance immediately hit problems with his voice and had to rest, effectively scuppering Big Dismal's launch. Music fans don't seem to mind and videos for singles have been hitting the screens of the big broadcasters. Unhelpful comparisons with Creed will hopefully now cease since the demise of that band and the space left in the rock firmament deserves to be filled by these guys who at least aren't ambiguous about their faith. Big Dismal's big throated rock has a lot going for it. Highlights include the opening cut "Remember" which Durance wrote for his grandmother and the story song "Just The Same" which just has one of those catchy riffs that gets under your skin. Definitely one to check out.
