The Swedish metal band kick off their second full length in a fashion that would make any Rage Against The Machine fan dance with glee. The title and opening track starts with the kind of rapcore riff that may have been all the vogue a decade ago but seems almost refreshing now! Their last EP seemed to cunningly cover up their nu-metal roots and exposed their much more emotional dimension, but this album has managed to incorporate all previous styles. Not only is the opener a corker but the third and fourth tracks also get the thumbs up from me, enough for me to play all three tracks on the Rock And Hard Place radio programme with great reception from the listeners. It is perhaps track three, Reflecting Light, which is my favourite - with its blistering intro, its funk-laden verses and its melodic choruses. This band thankfully takes in a whole load of stylistic influences without being too bogged down or attracted to any particular one. Lyrically the album deals with the reoccurring themes of forgiveness, new beginnings and rebirth, hence the title of the album. Not only do we at Cross Rhythms dig Mammuth but it seems so does Fire Fly, who have given the band UK distribution through Embryo Industries. You choose whose is the bigger endorsement, theirs or ours, either way the band have once again delivered the goods!
