First the fax'n'info. Beau had a series of minor soul record hits in the 80s for Capitol but with this 1987 album became a major US gospel attraction leaping high in the gospel charts and being nominated for all sorts of gospel awards. Precisely why Word (UK) didn't put out this gem back then is anybody's guess but suffice to say it motors and is well worth the release now. Beau has a wonderful soulfully inventive tenor not dissimilar to Sam Cooke particularly on his deft revival of the Soul Stirrers oldie which gives the album its title track. Production is a nice blend of old style trad (grab that storefront church organ sound) and funkier contemporary arrangeĀments. A fine gospel set by an excellent singer.
