Every now and then a reviewer hears a new band's debut and by its closing he is predicting much US Christian radio play and CCM success for the newcomers. The reason for such confidence is, in part, the quality of the songs, which deal with timeless themes with melodic flair and the lyricist's ability to ease insights out of familiar themes like the Cross, not being ashamed of the Gospel and the need for spiritual rescue. In part it's the appealing voice of frontman Adam Klutinoty who manages to sound warm and passionate at the same time. In part it's the production skills of Ian Eskelin (Francesca Battistelli, Sidewalk Prophets) and Howard Benson (Third Day, Daughtry). But whatever the component parts of this refreshing debut, this trio of siblings from Butler, Pennsylvania make an engaging album. 'About A Mile' will seem predictable and generic to the hipsters but to less blinkered Christian radio listeners simply looking for spiritual uplift with well crafted, well performed songs, this will do very nicely. Get ready to hear "Power Of The Cross" and the "Jesus Freak for this current generation", "In With The Out Crowd" on plenty of radio playlists.
