New research conducted for Stand Up to Cancer shows that the average British adult gives over £28,000 in total to charity during their lifetime. The study, commissioned by Hyundai UK and Stand Up To Cancer, which is part of Cancer Research UK, showed that the average UK adult gives over £28,000 to charity in a lifetime; with over £16,000 being given through direct debts, around £8,000 worth of donations to shops and more than £1,000 to collection boxes during their lifetime.

The Governor of Texas has signed into law a Bill which protects pro-life advocates from having to pay for abortions in the state. House Bill 214 means that abortions are no longer automatically covered by private health insurance, but women can opt to pay extra for the cover.

Drug-related deaths reached a record high in Scotland last year, new figures have revealed. There were 867 drug-related deaths in 2016, a 23 per cent increase on 2015. There are now two and a half times more drug deaths in Scotland compared to the UK as a whole and more deaths per capita than any other EU country.

Women are more likely to donate to charity and support local causes, a survey commissioned by the Institute of Fundraising has found. The survey, which was undertaken by YouGov, found that 54 per cent of women had given to a charity collection in the past 12 months, compared to 40 per cent of men.

The data revealed there were 754 reported incidents between July 2013 and April 2017. But the vast majority of councils contacted withheld their figures, meaning the number is probably much higher.

Drug-related deaths reached a record high in England and Wales last year, new figures have revealed. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has reported that there were 3,744 deaths from drug poisoning registered in 2016, the highest since comparable records began in 1993. The study found that deaths involving heroin and cocaine were at their highest level ever recorded.

Abortion Provider, Marie Stopes Exposed - Again
Yet again Marie Stopes International, the major abortion provider has been found to be failing women. In December 2016, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) published a highly critical report on the practices of Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of the main providers of abortion in England. It has just become apparent that their follow up report published in July also contains very serious criticisms of MSI. These included 373 abortion failures, 12 cases of women having to be taken from MSI clinics to NHS hospitals for emergency interventions, one case of an abortion taking place without consent and the employment of an unregistered nurse.

The leader of a Hindu nationalist organisation, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, has called upon Hindus to make India a ‘Hindu nation’ by 2023, it was reported in June. Sadhvi Saraswati stated that ‘Christians and Muslims in the country have to '…do a ghar wapasi’, a Hindi phrase meaning ‘home coming’, which implies that all non-Hindus should return to their original ‘home’ which is regarded as Hinduism. He also claimed that taking up arms would not be wrong in protecting Hinduism.
