Moby talks about his years of addiction and stardom
THE DANCE music legend Moby, who began his recording career as a Christian but whose faith and lifestyle deteriorated once he experienced success, has given an illuminating interview to UK trade magazine Music Week. He told them, "Towards them [of attempting to replicate the success of his 'Play' album] when I was bottoming out as an alcoholic and drug addict, I was so disappointed every morning that I woke up. It was like, 'Dammit, why am I still breathing?' I don't know what sort of strange cockroach DNA I have wrapped around my genome. For better or worse it wasn't my lot in life to end up dying as a drug addict."
Talking about fame he said, "If you expect fame to fix you, it will destroy you. If someone gets a lot of good press they become entitled and arrogant. And if someone gets a lot of negative press they become bitter and sad. I would rather not be either of those things.
