DMI Awards held in London.
THE OSLO Gospel Choir, Brian Powell, The Escofferys and Ray Bevan were among the Christian music performers heralded at Britain's leading gospel awards. The DMI Awards, held at the Marriot hotel on the 5th June, were organised by Deliverance Ministries International.
Special awards were made to Word (UK) to acknowledge their 25 years in gospel music and to the Rev Basil Meade for his pioneering work with the London Community Gospel Choir.
Winners of the 1992 awards were: Best Contemporary Gospel Artist: The Escoffery's; Best Male Vocalist: Brian Powell; Best Female Vocalist: Hildia Campbell (Inspirational Choir); Best British Rock Gospel Artist: Ray Bevan; Outstanding Work In African Gospel: Joyful Way Singers; Best Gospel Album By A Choir: Oslo Gospel Choir; Best Gospel Event of 1991: Greenbelt '91; Best British New Artist: Limit X.
The awards were hosted by Jazz FM radio presenter and The Blues Band musician Paul Jones and African actress Jumoke Fashola. Soul singer David Grant and his wife Carrie compeered the evening.
