Mike: How did you get the name Daily Planet?

(Seth Davis) We're really big superhero fans. The Daily Planet is where mild mannered Clark Kent works and we were desparately searching for a name and our drummer was looking through a comic book and suggested it and it was the first name that all four of us in the band had agreed on so we went with it.

Mike: What names did you reject?

Former Child Actors; Bonnie's Pantsuit; Chimpy And The Bigheads; Mr Chimpy & The Heatseekers; The Gary Colman Tribute Band; Jimmy & The Psalms; Dinosaur Pants.

Mike: How did the band form?

(Jesse Butterworth) We met at college in Pasadena, California and we all were connected through the music course there. We were in the choir and orchestra. Seth and I got together one day and played and decided we would form a band but we needed to find a guitarist. We phoned a guy but his room mate took the message and instead passed it on to Bobby who came up and asked us about it. The only way we knew him was because he played the French horn in the orchestra! We were very doubtful because we were looking for rock'n'roll! But 30 seconds after he plugged in, we knew he was the guy!

Mike: Hmmm.French horn, not very rock'n'roll. Not exactly going to be a babe magnet playing that are you?

(Bobby Ranch) Well I know how much you guys love the French!
(Jesse) I was actually playing the bass in the orchestra, much better for being a chick magnet though I did play French horn in High School.
(Seth) And I sang.opera! (Seth demonstrates his operatic voice.)

Mike: A future career after you finish with the rock'n'roll?

(Seth) I hope not!

Mike: What's the point of the band?

(Seth) In all that we do, we seek to paint an authentic and creative picture of God's presence in every aspect of life causing people to crave a first hand experience of Jesus Christ.
(Jesse) It's important to us that people just don't take our word for it. We want people to crave something because of it. We want them to get it for themselves.

Mike: That has to be something that happens on and off stage.

(Bobby) We try to always be the same person whether it's on stage or back stage or in an audience or getting gas at the mart. Anytime you see us, we always want to be the same person rather than creating a persona.
(Jesse) It's difficult to not fall into the habit of separating church from everything else. So on Sunday I'm the most holy guy you'll ever see but once Monday hits I'm dropping the F-bomb all over the place. We really firmly believe that worship is a lifestyle, not just something that has to do with church or music even. To worship God is to glorify him and that's what our lives should be about and to try and separate those things tears the fabric of what Christianity is about. CR
